CPC Orlando

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Our family was super excited about stopping by Disney’s Coronado Springs in Orlando for the 2012 Children’s Pastor Conference. Our goal was to meet up with Kidology founder Karl Bastian to show off Howard, our Kidology to Go motorhome at an informal get together at the conference.

However on our way down to CPC we received news about Patsy’s dad who had surgery down in Naples, Florida and was having a tough time with his recovery. Not knowing how things were going to far with her dad, we decided to forego the get together in Orlando. Still we wanted to stop in and say hi to Karl and take a stroll through CPC’s famous vendor room.

Strolling up and down the aisles of vendor after vendor at CPC is sort of like walking the miracle mile of children’s ministry! More than just a curriculum fair, CPC is a place to find all the latest tools, goodies and fun gadgets that children’s pastors love to use to spread the Gospel. Good stuff for sure, but having kids along with us, we got the royal treatment.

Brendan as the dragon

At the Group Publishing site a bunch of ladies wanting to demonstrate a trick involving hairdryers and hollow balls, grabbed our boys who were quite happy to play along. Later the boys were hijacked at a booth demonstrating face painting and balloon twisting. Once again they were happy kidnapees! Still another booth insisted on giving them magic canes and yet another some candy. Blake talked to a graphic artist who makes stills of Bible Stories for use in children’s church and a job offer for later in life!

Our family of five boys looked so great, we were handed five different CDs with Christian kid’s music!!

We did get to meet up with Karl at the Discipleland booth. He was very gracious and understanding, encouraging my wife to go and be with her father. When we were done walking to gauntlet our boys had a big bag full of freebies and they were all very glad to be there. They barely even realized they were on Disney property!

Kidology to Go looks back on the first year

From October 2010 through October 2011, our first year with Kidology to Go was an amazing experience. I hope you enjoy the highlights in the video!

Kevin Shutterbug and the Kidologist

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

Our family visited the founder of Kidology, Karl Bastian (AKA the Kidologist) and his family in Parker, Colorado. Kevin got a chance to sit down with the Kidologist and have a little chat and a few laughs. Thanks again to One Way Street for making Kevin’s interviews possible!

CPC San Diego Recap

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

We had a great time bringing our RV to the annual Kidology get together at the Children’s Pastors Conference in San Diego this past week. What a blast it was to park it right by the bridge going from the Town and Country Resort to where all the local restaurants were located, watching tons of CPC attendees and vendors pass by and wave.

Of course several people stopped by to say hi, meet us and take a tour of our RV. CM Connect founder Michael Chanley even took the opportunity to hold our snake Sunset! Of course Sunset, our 4 foot albino ball python, was both a hit and a terror, depending on who you ask. Still I am sure he appreciated the chance to stretch and making it on Michael’s Facebook page!

We met several new friends and made some great contacts for possible future Kidology to Go dates. We also really enjoyed hanging out with a few of the other Kidology employees like Karl Bastian, Daniel Stec, Todd McKeever and Barney Kinard. Later I was able to help “work the booth” for Kidology in the vendor area and take a tour and see some of the other booths and meet up with some old friends like Dave Jamerson of Awana, Matt Guevara (who was once a kid in a Sunday School class I taught back in college), David Laflin and Byron Ragins from Cook Publishing.

Enjoying "real fellowship" at lunch during CPC

The last night of the conference they invited us all to an advanced screening of an amazing movie called Courageous which is due out this fall in theaters. Courageous is made by the same company  (really a church!) that produced Fireproof, and is even better than Fireproof was.

I couldn’t help but leave the auditorium that night with tears in my eyes.

All in all it was a very good conference and very encouraging to be around so many great Kidmins!

Success at Locust Grove!

Monday, November 8th, 2010

With our first Kidology to Go under our belts, I can honestly say that we could never have been blessed with a better host church than Locust Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Children’s Pastor Jacob Myers is an upcoming young star who was not only organized and thoughtful but was also a kind and gracious host, along with his wife Sarah and the rest of their staff and volunteers.

Having Kidology founder Karl Bastian and his son Luke at the first Kidology to Go was another amazing boost to the kick-off event. He opened the event by teaching the banner workshop, Kidology 101 as only a passionate professional can. He also helped us to learn the ropes and encouraged us along the way.

The attendees were engaged and participated in some of our more active workshops. Their interaction and feedback was very helpful and their energy for reaching children for Christ was contagious! They came from as far as away as 160 miles! What an amazing event it was for everyone involved and how great it was to meet some new friends in the children’s ministry realm. Thank God for His goodness in putting all the right pieces together for this event!
