Our poor mini-van

Every once in awhile an event takes place in your life which sharpens and clarifies for us what life is all about, and even at times cause us to redirect our attentions to the most important and eternal things in life. Recently I had such an event take place in my life. We were in Bakersfield, California and my family was safe and sound doing school in our RV while I went to run a few errands around town.

Driving in a strange town can be a real challenge. Trying to avoid renegade semi-trucks in a strange town is a whole nother matter! While turning right at an intersection the front end of my mini-van was shaved off by a semi. Fortunately no one was seriously hurt, but our van was a total loss.

Taking care of matters such as insurance claims, license plate transfers and purchasing another van in a strange town has been a lesson in patience and persistence! There has been a time or two through this process when I thought how much easier this is would be if we were living in a “stick house” and had a local insurance agent, a favorite auto mechanic and a trusted car dealer to turn to.

But then I think of what an amazing adventure I am having traveling the country with my family, seeing new sites, experiencing history first hand and making some incredible memories while meeting some great people on the road, and I realize that this accident has only made me more grateful for this amazing opportunity!
